Imagine seeing Eleven with a Lacoste polo shirt; Well, now step back in time and try doing the same thing with Lady Bridgerton or the Duke of Hastings. If you think it’s an impossible or surreal situation, you’ll have to change your mind: the new collaboration between Netflix and Lacoste is born from the love for our favourite television series.
The collection, halfway between fashion and sport, celebrates a democratic vision of style, a fundamental value for Netflix and Lacoste, which speak to all generations and all tastes. Polos, caps, tracksuits and sweatshirts allow fans to wear their favourite stories and characters through fashion.
The Lacoste crocodile is the new Netflix icon
What is the effect of seeing the French crocodile transformed into a Demogorgon, the famous and scary monster from Stranger Things or depicted with Queen Elizabeth’s wig? And these are just some of the goodies presented by the two brands in this 2023 collab.
In fact, for an inveterate TV series spectator, there is plenty of choice when purchasing Lacoste x Netflix creations. The rather wide selection includes, as previously stated, a crew-neck or polo-model t-shirt, an evergreen Lacoste, organic cotton sweatshirts (with coordinated trousers), sneakers, shopping bags, pouches and practical shoulder bags, rubber slippers, socks, baseball caps and even wristwatches, all featuring the graphic crossing of the logos of the clothing brand and the streaming giant.
The collection, which is designed to be unisex with pieces suitable for him and for her and which also includes products for boys, is very lively and extremely contemporary and makes the most of the presence of logos in design and patterns.
The collection from screen to reality in detail
Let’s start in order of “age” from the Lacoste suit dedicated to Bridgerton is made up of a bowling shirt and a pair of Bermuda shorts in a toile de jouy print featuring the various Lacoste crocodiles reinvented based on the series taken as inspiration. This is accompanied by a sweatshirt in a light blue pastel with a crocodile in the Queen Charlotte version complete with delicate white gloves, always in homage to the period series. The monsters of the upside down are instead prints for crewnecks or embroideries that decorate bum bags and shoes, not to mention the inevitable polo shirts that see them enthroned on the chest in perfect Lacoste style. For Lupine, the reinterpretation instead plays on more markedly sporty garments with hoodies, t-shirts and plush Bermuda shorts decorated with a thieving crocodile with flat cap, cape and sneakers. While the fake vintage mood of Sex Education translates into a preppy style with some Seventies touches with a white polo shirt finished with an Otis-crocodile and a woven sweater over a pair of bell-bottom jeans.
Lacoste, a bit of history of the brand
From tennis to fashion; the Lacoste brand was born “for fun” and from the business intuition of its creator, the Frenchman René Lacoste. It was he who was the first to wear a short-sleeved polo shirt on a tennis court in 1926, causing a scandal but also history. The crocodile symbol? From a nickname that was given to him by a Davis Cup teammate and which, today we can say, has never been more appropriate. In 1933 the creation of the brand together with his friend Andrè Gillier and the rest is definitely history; in the 1980s, with the addition of the footwear and accessories sector, Lacoste became a truly international fashion house which today boasts over 1,200 single-brand shops around the world. In 2003, Lacoste also had to face a tough legal battle over the logo with rival Crocodile, which was later won by the French fashion house.
Worth noting is the birth of a community of fans of the Lacoste brand, called “The Lacoste club” made up of fans of the brand with the crocodile, which gives access to many advantages, such as discounts, exclusive products, gifts, advice from Lacoste experts, and many other news about the brand.
